Arkansas State University Becomes First Novell Linux Center for Excellence
WALTHAM, Mass. - July 29, 2004 - Arkansas State University has been
named Novell's first "Linux Center for Excellence" training center,
launching a program designed to increase the level of certified Linux
professionals in the marketplace. Working with Novell Training Services,
Arkansas State University (ASU) has developed a strong Linux training
offering that will be available on both the ASU campus and at extension
centers in the local community. ASU will offer both academic and
commercial classes, with the first commercial class beginning Aug. 9.
ASU will offer Novell Linux training and certification on campus as part
of its normal course curriculum.
"We're pleased to be leading the way in training on Novell Linux
offerings," said Dean Jan Duggar of Arkansas State University.
"Linux and open source are clearly the wave of the future in
computing, and we want to ensure our students get the best training
possible to ensure their marketability going forward. Novell's global
presence and strong history of certifications makes them an ideal
partner for developing our Linux offerings."
As a Linux Center of Excellence, ASU will become a certified Novell
testing center, allowing the university to administer practicum exams
for the Novell Certified Linux Engineer and Certified Linux Professional
programs. ASU is the first academic institution to offer a "one-stop
shop" for degree courses, professional certification, and career
placement assistance around Novell's Linux offerings.
"ASU was selected as the launch site for our new Linux Center for
Excellence program because of their strong commitment to the business of
open source and Novell's Linux distribution,"said Dan Veitkus, vice
president of world wide training services for Novell. "We hope the
model being embraced by ASU will lead to additional training and career
opportunities for individuals interested in driving and supporting
Novell Linux offerings into the market."
