LinuxDig.Com: Linux News : Linus Torvalds, Did he create Linux?
Author: HumanX | Thursday May 20, 2004
Alexis de Tocqueville Institution a think tank partially funded by Microsoft, has disputed and has come to the conclusion that Linux Torvalds did not create Linux without help from other operating systems.
The question is whether Linus used or altered source code from the Minix Operating System which Linus denies and goes on to say that he credits Unix with inspiration (which is no secret) but Linux is written from scratch.
This is technological mud slinging at its worst. Linux was developed for the sake of curiosity, for fun and for sharing. Linus is not a rich man (or rich as we think he should be), he is a man who could have taken advantage of the Linux movement and instead chose to work for other companies and to only support the Linux kernel.
If anyone were to closely study the life of Linux Torvalds, one would only see that this is a man who lives in a world focused on development and does not care about much else, especially business! He does not even seem to care if he is recognized for his accomplishments as he has been more then willing to shift that focus away from himself and onto others.
There is one important thing to remember, and that they admit that the Linux code was archaic at inception! Basically, if Linux did use Minux, how could the original Kernel of Linux be so archaic? If that were even the case, did Linux then rewrite the Minix? The argument from Tocqueville is rediculous and I think they should reconsider their story.
If you have your doubts read “Just for Fun: The Story of an Accidental Revolutionary “ which can be purchased from Amazon. This is book detailing Linux development and gives you a more personal view of Linux Torvalds.
