Vmware 4. Not only is it cool, it is fast.
Author: HumanX | Monday August 04, 2003

VMWare is the cross platform, multiple O/S emulator from VMWare. Version 4 explodes onto the scene with a new interface, speed enhancements and usability upgrades. Actually released in March of 2003, but we were taking out time reviewing it.

VMWare (http://www.vmware.com) is an emulator which executes in both Microsoft Windows and Linux. What does this mean? Imagine your computer installed with Linux and then running another version of Linux, a version of Windows 2000, a version of Windows XP with complete GUI interface, 100% application and network compatibility. That is the power of VMWare.

VMWare looks just like any other program running in a window in your computer except within that window is an operating system. And that operating system is totally independent of the base operating system and runs as if it were its own computer in every way, shape and form.

This article focuses on the upgraded features of VMWare, if you are interested I have posted reviews here in the past that describe VMWare in more detail and its many uses.

One of the newer exciting features of VMWare is the fact that multiple operating systems run within a tabbed window. (Killer Upgrade) This basically means you can have 5 versions of Linux running in one window and simply click between tabs to begin using each.

Shared Folders, Drag and Drop. VMWare now supports drag and drop between the host operating system and the guest operating system No more network connections for sharing files.

Sound and video now run seamlessly within the windows, no more dropped frames or annoying sound distortion.

You can download an evaluation from VMWare's website and I highly recommend you do so.
