I first encountered RealSoft3d in Feb's issue of LinuxFormat. After visiting the website and doing some additional research, I decided to get setup and download RealSoft3d for review.
Real Soft
I was amazed.. I was expecting an application that fullfilled its duties as a 3d app but more talk then action. I was wrong. RealSoft 3d has everything you could possible need from post production, to filters, to tons of design tools and animation. *It does include BONES structures for animation. The interface is well thought out and unobtrusive.
The current release is considered a commercial beta which retails for $300 which will finally be sold for around $700 at final. Those who purchase RealSoft 3d now will be locked in to a free upgrade as long as they provide assistance to the developers when a bug is found.
Useability....... 4/5
GUI.............. 5/5
Robustness....... 5/5
Stability........ 3/5 (Remember, this is a commercial beta)
Documentation.... 4/5
Final Thoughts: This will be an incredible application when final. I strongly recommend anyone who is tired of spending thousands of dollars for 3d applications, to look into RealSoft 3d. As far as we (read below) can tell it has everything that 3d Studios and Lightwave contains.
The commercial beta is still somewhat buggy but useable. If you are considering moving into the realm of 3d or are a game developer, RealSoft 3d is worth looking into.
Another review is coming as an associate of mine who is big into 3d Studios and Lightwave is going to write a comparison article. So far, things are looking good and he was even pleasantly surprised.
