Decorate your Christmas Tree with Computer Parts
Author: Human X | Monday December 02, 2002
This is how all geeks should celebrate Christmas. Check out the picture of the tree decordated with old computer parts.
Watch your fingers and get out the tools, it is time to break apart all of your old computer parts, especially the hard drives. After pondering for many months what to do with all of my old computer parts, I finally decided to break them apart and decorate the christmas tree.
Most parts inside your old hard drives are stainless steel and aluminum which are highly reflective and make for interesting ornaments.
Be careful if you plan to open CRT / Monitors as they have capacitors inside which store energy. Capacitors can give you a serious shock or even kill., this would not make your Christmas special.
I first started this tradition in 1999-2000 (forgot which one) and have since been collecting old hard drives for the exlusive purpose of opening and decorating my christmas tree with. Now, probably every drive manufacturer is on my tree! :)
If you have not opened a drive before, it can take some time without the proper tools. Expect 1/2 or so of labor.
http://news.scotsman.com/scitech.cfm?id=1410752004 wrote an article including information about my tree and says it is even an evironmentally safe way to deal with your old computer parts. If that does not motivate you, then what will?
I guess I am one of the first people to do this, so if you like the idea and decide to decorate your tree with computer parts, please feel free to send me an email. I would like to include pictures of other trees as well. Just use the "Contact LinuxDig" link on the navigation bar.
