SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol)1. A standard for using a regular telephone line (a serial line) and a modem to connect a computer as a realInternet site. SLIP has largely been replaced by PPP. From Matisse 2. Allows a computer to connect to the Internet using a modem and telephone line--similar to PPP. Users then navigate the Internet using software on their own computer. This is in contrast to using a dialup teminal connection, where a user is forced to navigate the Net using a text-based set of menus. From Glossary of Distance Education and Internet Terminology 3.
