Pine1. An electronic mail program for UNIX computer systems, unlike predecessor programs, such as Elm, the program contains its own easy-to-use full screen editor, thus freeing users from dependence on the not-very-easy-to-use default editors on UNIX systems (such as emacs and vi ). (The name "Pine" is actually an acronym. of the self-referential sort: Pine Is Not Elm.) From QUECID 2. Pine is a very popular, easy to use, full-featured email user agent that includes a simple text editor called pico. Pine supports MIME extensions and can also be used to read news.
