1. 2.5 generation cellular technology enables increases in data bandwidth available over current 2G cellular networks. 2.5 G technology can be implemented by cellular operators thru software updates to their network, whereas 3 G requires new hardware installations. The most common 2.5 G deployment to-date is General Packet Radio Service, or GPRS.
